Ten years based in Thailand as a volunteer media specialist saw a change from the observer-reporter/editor to the involved reporter/storyteller in words, photographs and videos. You can see some of that work on my YouTube channel, Volunteer Media Asia, which records more than 120,000 views. And a TV movie, Shadow Trade, that was made during an investigation of the Thailand dog meat trade -- the trailer is at Shadow Trade: http://vimeo.com/182077945 and the full movie is available on Netflix.
Now I am writing in Ecuador for most of the year, working on my own projects, including Beyond Extinction which links the future of humans with the survival of nonhumans. You can buy Beyond Extinction on Amazon or download a free promotional copy from my author website at www.volunteermedia.org/extinction/index.html.
You will see in all my media work a care for those in need, human and nonhuman. I was vegetarian from childhood, give or take the odd sausage sarnie before I realised what they were, and vegan for the past 35 years or so. In my creative writing, my preoccupations tend to pop up: veganism, the complexities of realities, and the drive for equality and fairness. Even in fiction, you cannot deny yourself, can you?
